Panther girls run away with meet title

BLOOMFIELD ? The Pekin girls? track team ran away from the small school competition at Monday?s Dennis Anderson Relays in Bloomfield, scoring 184 points to best second-place Davis County JV by 43.
The Panthers kicked off the outdoor season in style with wins in four individual events and two relays.
Individually, gold medals were won by Victoria Eckley in the long jump, Mallory Reed in the 100-meter hurdles, Whitney Horras in the 400-meter dash and Celsey Conger in the 1,500-meter run.
The 4x800 featuring Horras, Maleaha Earnest, Monica Cooley and Conger finished first; while the shuttle hurdle team of Reed, Samantha Wright, Taiylor Morgan and Madelyn Baker also finished first.
The Panthers girls look to continue their winning ways Friday at Clear Creek-Amana.
Comets win four events
BLOOMFIELD ? Only 10 runners competed for Cardinal Monday, but the Comets used what bodies they had and won four events at the Dennis Anderson Relays in Bloomfield.
Jordan Smith and Lindsay Albert led the Comets and were on three of those winning events apiece. Smith finished first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.52 seconds, and Albert was champion of the 200-meter dash in 28.56 seconds. Both Comets, along with Danielle Wycoff and Alexis Adam, finished first in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
Smith, Albert, Courtney Smith and Wycoff ran second in the 4x400 relay.
?It was a great night for our first meet,? said Cardinal head coach Michelle Albert. ?I was very proud of my girls.?
Cardinal was fifth in the team race with 55 points.
The Comets return to the track Thursday at Eddyville-Blakesburg.
