When No. 12 Mt. Pleasant and West Burlington left off last week, Hannah Newman had just given the Panthers a 5-4 lead on a two-RBI double with two outs in the fifth right before lightning struck to postpone the games. When play resumed on Wednesday, the Panthers finished off game one 8-4 but fell 6-3 in game two.
Sydni Coleman resumed her role as game one pitcher to pick up the win in game one. Newman and Anni Liechty had three hits apiece in the win.
Liechty was on the mound for game two. Notre Dame's Lauren Summers picked up the win in the circle and also burned the Panthers with a three-run home run at the plate.
Mt. Pleasant is now 19-10 overall. They'll continue their busy week with two more games against Davis County tonight (Wednesday) before finishing up the regular season at a tournament in Iowa City over the weekend.
The Panthers will then wait on a July 11 matchup between Fairfield and Keokuk to decide their regional semifinal opponent. The Panthers will host the winner of that game on July 13, and the winner of that game will advance to play North Scott, Burlington or Ft. Madison in the Class 4A Region 6 championship on July 16.
