MT. PLEASANT — For the second time in less than a week, the Mt. Pleasant and Washington girls soccer teams met up to renew their Southeast Conference rivalry, but Thursday night’s edition had a different result.
Six days after Washington’s 2-0 home win over Mt. Pleasant, the Panthers got revenge, beating the Demons 1-0 at East Lake Park.
A defensive battle between the two teams saw just one shot find the back of the net. Charice Auwerda scored for Mt. Pleasant in the second half, capitalizing on a free kick earned by Aurora Hummell.
Washington sent 10 shots on goal against Panther keeper Eli Heaton, but could never get one past the Mt. Pleasant senior. Meanwhile, Demon keeper Aleigha Medley saved four shots.
The win put Mt. Pleasant’s overall record at 6-3-1, while Washington fell to 5-5. The two teams currently sit in third and fourth in the SEC respectively, with the Panthers holding a 4-3 league record, while the Demons sit at 2-4.
