Panther Profile: James DeMeyer
N/A
Oct. 4, 2018 11:59 am
James DeMeyer is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Panther football team.
DeMeyer is a starting linebacker and the leading tackler for Mt. Pleasant this season. He is also a member of the Panther wrestling team.
DeMeyer met with The News on Tuesday after practice. The questions are in bold with his answers following.
Did you grow up here in Mt. Pleasant? Yep, born and raised.
How long have you been playing football? I played my first year of flag football in kindergarten. It wasn't really game situations but we did a lot of walk-through stuff during practice.
Have you made plans for after high school? I kind of want to go into sports med. I don't know where yet. I kind of want to play football in college too, but we'll see what happens after the season.
What is the best memory you've made in your time playing for Mt. Pleasant? Just the family atmosphere here. We're all brothers. It's just a great atmosphere here, I love it.
If they allowed touchdown dances, what would you have done last year when you scored on your fumble return last year? Oh man, I don't know. I like celebrating with my teammates so it probably would have been something with them. It would just be in the moment when I'm all hyped up and ready to go.
Do you have any superstitions? Same underwear every game day. Game day underwear and same parking spot. That's the thing you've got to have the same.
Which of your teammates is the hardest to tackle? Probably Zach (Beason). He just runs hard. He's a big boy that runs hard.
Are you playing fantasy football with some kids from school this year? Yep.
This is your chance to tell me who is the guy in your league where you just know you're going to beat him? Tucker Johnson! He started off the season pretty hot, 2-0, but I beat him in week three and my team is horrible. I'm 1-3 right now. So I'm not very good, but we're trucking along.
If you had to draft one of your coaches to suit up to play this Friday, who would give you the best chance of winning? Oh man. I gotta answer this wisely. I'm giving it to Coach Stribe. In scout team offense, he runs hard. So I'll give it to Coach Stribe.
Favorite movie or TV show? My favorite movie would probably be Friday Night Lights. The legit movie, not the TV show on NETFLIX.
Do you like the TV show at all? Yeah, it's good. I just like the older one.
If you could spend the day with one celebrity, who would you choose? Case Keenum, the Minnesota Vikings quarterback from last year.
What would you guys do? Probably just play some catch. Run some routes for him and play some catch with him, it'd be fun.
What makes you say Case Keenum? Because he's not like one of the quarterbacks you'd think of right away. Well, I'm a Vikings fan and he's just like …nobody expected anything out of him. So he's like the underdog his whole life. He just performed well and showed up when his team needed him. He's a good team-leader.
What if you could pick a superpower to have for the rest of your life? I would fly. That would be fun. You could get everywhere fast.
Anywhere specific you'd fly to right away? No, just fly around. Just chill.
Who is your favorite teacher? Coach Maynard. History teacher.
Any reason for that? He's just fun. He's energetic and he understands us well.
Do you have any shout outs? You can shout out anyone in the world. Anyone? My momma. I love my momma. Gotta shout her out for sure!
