Sadie Carrasco is a senior at Mt. Pleasant high school and a member of the Panther girls' basketball team.
Carrasco serves as the main post option for the Panthers, and has for the last two seasons, scoring four points a game and finishing second in rebounds (106) and blocks (16). She is also a member of the Panther volleyball and track and field teams.
Carrasco met with The News on Tuesday before practice. The questions are in bold with her answers following.
Did you grow up here in Mt. Pleasant? No. I was actually born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and I spent about half my life there and then moved here.
How long have you been playing basketball? Ever since I was little. I would play street ball with my brothers when they were in REC ball, and then I got into REC ball and just went from there.
Have you made plans for after high school? Yeah, I already have. I've been accepted into the University of Iowa, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I'm going to major in health and human physiology and either doubling or minoring in Spanish.
How do you get psyched up for a game? Do you like silence or music, or what? A little bit of everything. Before the game I like to get pumped and listen to music, and then before the game I just like, talk to people.
Is there a certain band or artist that helps more than anyone else? Well, I like oldies and I like listening to the old music that I can sing along to and stuff.
So what's old music to you? Like Queen is a big band that I really like.
I wanted to make people feel old that are reading this, if you said Backstreet Boys or something. I listen to them too!
What do you like better home games or road games? I like home games a lot. Like, just being around your own crowd and it's a nice atmosphere.
What's a better feeling, scoring a basket or blocking a shot? Definitely blocking a shot.
That's like the best feeling ever, isn't it? Oh yes!
Do you have any that stick out in your mind? I remember I blocked this one girl twice in a row. She just kept getting the rebound and I just kept blocking her.
Could you block Coach Watson's shot? Oh yes! Oh yeah.
Have you ever before? No, not really. He always does those faders, and they always get me.
Do you have any superstitions? This sounds dumb, but I have to wear a certain ankle brace on a certain ankle. I always have to have the one with the red stripe on it on this ankle (pointing to ankle).
Or else it's unlucky? Yeah!
Out of you and all your siblings, which one is the most competitive? Probably me.
Just from growing up with brothers? Oh yeah.
Favorite movie or TV show? My favorite movie would probably have to be 'Remember the Titans,” and TV show would have to be 'Criminal Minds.”
Are you one of those people who can just sit there and watch Criminal Minds all day? Oh yes. I turn into a profiler.
If you could spend the day with one celebrity, who would you choose? That's a good question. I would have to say Ella Fitzgerald. She's a jazz artist.
What would you guys do, just like Jazz it out? Yeah! Just Jazz, get some scat in there.
What if you could pick a superpower to have for the rest of your life? Telekinesis, move stuff with my mind.
That'd be scary, you'd probably freak people out. But it would be cool!
Who is your favorite teacher in your time here at Mt. Pleasant? Either the Depriests, or my anatomy teacher Mrs. Holtkamp.
Do you have any shout outs? I'd like to shout out my mom, Lisa Carrasco. She's just a good person to look up to. She raised me and my four brothers. She's a strong woman and she does everything on her own. Never complains, and she just enjoys life. If it's not fun, Lisa isn't there.
Panther Profile is a series of interviews with Mt. Pleasant athletes currently in season. This season will focus on members of the Panther basketball, bowling and wrestling teams.
