Panther Profile: Trinity Krabill
N/A
Jun. 27, 2019 12:46 pm
Trinity Krabill is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Panther softball team.
Krabill has been a major part of the varsity squad for the last three years, including the 2017 state qualying team. The center fielder is one of the best power hitters for Mt. Pleasant and currently leads the team with four home runs this season.
Krabill met with The News on Wednesday before practice. The questions are in bold with her answers following.
Did you grow up in Mt. Pleasant? I did.
How long have you been playing softball? I started tournament ball in third grade (Hot Stix).
Can you tell me about yours and Makayla Cam's college plans and how they have changed? Well, we were going to go to MCC (Marshalltown Community College), and then stuff happened there. We found out SCC was interested in both of us. We got lucky. They reached out to us.
And it's one of the closest colleges to home, too. Yeah, it's even better to be closer to home. I was kind of getting scared toward the end, being two hours away. I know it's not far, but I'm a baby.
Do you remember your first ever home run? It was my freshman year on JV at Iowa City High, and it hit the scoreboard. It was so cool, the first one.
Last week in Burlington you robbed a home run, so what's more fun; hitting one or robbing one? Probably that (robbing one), because I've always dreamed about it. But it sucks that it was on one of those fake fences because I've always thought of how cool it would be. My mom says, ‘you never know. It might not have happened if it was a real fence,' but I was like, ‘No, I had that ball!'
Did it hurt at all? It seemed like you had a rough landing. Yeah. My leg is scratched up, but it's OK.
Battle scars. Right!
Who is the most competitive person on the team? That's a good question. Makayla is pretty competitive. We both get mad. If I know she's mad after a dumb play, you don't want to talk to her. That's how I am too. Anni (Liechty) is a good ball player. She's competitive.
Do you like road games better or home games? For sure home games. It's just way better. Like last night after that rain delay, I was like, ‘I'm good with the rain, hopefully it doesn't get cancelled.' If it was away I would have wished it got cancelled.
Pretty rough when you're sitting around in the rain on the road, and then you have to get on the bus. Yeah, you get bored and tired.
What do you do during a rain delay? Last night we all got upstairs in the box and listened to music. We were dancing and talking about whatever. If it was away, we probably would have just sat there bored, like West Burlington would have been.
What is your take on softball chants? They're so annoying! But that's good on them. It shows that they're hyped up, not that we're not hyped up. I think sometimes we should do it but not being so annoying.
Do you have any particular ones in that you think is really annoying? I think it's Keokuk, they do like, ‘FOUR FOUR FOUR!' It's so annoying and it's so loud.
If all your teammates were running for president, who would you vote for? Anni. She seems very smart, and I'm not just saying that because she's older. She just seems like someone who knows it all.
Who on the team would make the best coach? Me, and Makayla. Both of us. Probably just because we've been playing for so long, but like I said earlier, we're just hard on each other. And if you've ever seen her dad at the games, he's just so strict and on her. He was our coach, and he'll yell at you, not to get down on you, but he knows you're a good player.
So maybe one day you and Makayla can just co-coach a team. I was just talking that yesterday or the day before at practice, how cool it would be if when we're older we're the high school coaches here. That would be so cool.
In Little League, sometimes the softball teams pick their own team names. If you had to pick a team name, not the Panthers, what would you call yourselves? My tournament team was ‘Heat' so I don't want to do that and I don't want to do Hot Stix … ‘The Ballers.' Not like basketball, though, this is softball.
Who would make the best stand-up comedian? I think Lyndi (Vantiger) is funny, and she's got a smart mouth.
What is your favorite movie? Probably ‘The Notebook.' There are so many good movies. I like love movies.
If you could hang out with one celebrity for a whole day, who would it be? Carrie Underwood. I like her. She's just all-around good.
If you listen to Carrie Underwood before the game, do you get pumped? I really don't listen to music before games.
If you could pick a superpower to have? Read minds.
Have you had a favorite teacher? No. I never liked school.
Do you have any shout outs? My mother, of course. She's hard on me with softball, but she understands. She's just all-around a great mom.
