Panther Profile: Tucker Johnson
N/A
Dec. 13, 2018 12:34 pm
Tucker Johnson is a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of the Panther boys' basketball team.
Johnson is currently the third-leading scorer for Mt. Pleasant, scoring 6.7 points per game. He is one of just a couple of returners that got minutes on last year's state tournament team.
Johnson is also a member of the Panther football team, and has played for Mt. Pleasant baseball as well. He met with The News on Wednesday after practice.
Did you grow up here in Mt. Pleasant? Yes, I did.
How long have you been playing basketball? Since probably third or fourth grade.
What got you into it? My dad played when he was going through high school and everything, so I thought I'd do it, and I've always liked it.
Have you made plans for after high school? No, I'm undecided. I still need to decide whether or not I'm playing football, or if I'm just going to go to school.
Will that make a difference in what school you choose if you don't play football? For sure, yeah.
Word of phrase that Coach Akey says the most during practice? I can't think of an appropriate one.
Teammate that talks most on the court? Probably Keegan. He's just a good leader, so that's what he does.
Which member of the team can lift most? Me.
You're tops? Yep!
By a lot? No, there are a few around me.
Do you have any superstitions? Same underwear every single game, that's it.
What if you have a game Friday and then Saturday? Wash em.
Every time? Yep!
When you aren't at school or practice, what can we find you doing? Hanging with friends usually. That's pretty much it. I just like to have a good time.
Favorite movie or TV show? Movie, probably the sandlot.
What is your preparation like before a game? I just act the same. I'll talk to everyone and listen to music. Don't really think about anything, just go into the game nonchalant.
If you were running for president and had to pick one of your teammates to be your running mate, who would you choose? Rylan Seberg.
Why? He's just funny.
When I did this interview with James DeMeyer, he said you had the worst fantasy football team. Did you turn it around? No. The reason is because the first two weeks I'll try and then from there I just forget. And then everyone just … I'm terrible.
If you could spend the day with one celebrity, who would you choose? Kevin Hart. He's just a really funny dude.
What would you guys do? Just go to like a big city and do whatever we find.
What if you could pick a superpower? Reading people's minds.
Who is your favorite teacher? Probably Mr. Wagner. He's just really cool, and always likes to have a good time with his students.
Panther Profile is a series of interviews with Mt. Pleasant athletes currently in season. This season will focus on members of the Panther basketball, bowling and wrestling teams.
