SOLON — Mt. Pleasant boys soccer season came to an end on Monday night in a substate first round loss to the Spartans of Solon.
Despite a great second half by the Panthers, the Spartans took the victory 2-1 to advance.
Through the first half, Mt. Pleasant created a number of opportunities but failed to capitalize on them.
On the contrary, Solon’s physicality made the difference.
The Spartans were able to disrupt the Panthers on the offensive side of the pitch, while having the majority of the 50/50 ball going their way.
Solon went on to score two goals in the first half from Keegan Conway and Eli Freerks.
At the half, Mt. Pleasant made some noticeable adjustments.
Through the second period, the Panthers stepped it up a notch.
Mt. Pleasant found its rhythm and after consistent pressure, Panther freshman Dylan White scored their opening goal of the game. Moroni Sanchez assisted on the goal.
Although Mt. Pleasant was able to cut the lead to one, that’s all it could muster through 40 minutes.
With the loss, the Panthers end the 22-23 season at 4-10.
Along with White’s goal and Sanchez’s assist, Axel Noriega had two shots on goal. Jack Newman and Jonah Zimmer each finished with one shot on goal.
In goal, Rudy Ruiz Motta ended with seven saves.
Mt. Pleasant will return much of the roster next season as it loses just three seniors to graduation.
The Panthers showed a lot of improvement this season and will be competitive once again in 2023-24.
