Panther soccer teams dominate
Mt. Pleasant racks up 19 goals in doubleheader

MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant soccer teams were red-hot at East Lake Park on Monday, as the Panthers hosted Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union for their annual doubleheader.
The Panther girls got things going with a 10-0 victory over the Wildcats. The boys won 9-0.
The Mt. Pleasant girls led 6-0 at halftime and added four more in the second half to end the game in the 54th minute.
Charice Auwerda and Addison Peck both piled up the goals, scoring four apiece in the win. Mattisyn Wenke had two goals, and Tori Wilson led the team with four assists.
Eli Heaton was in net for the Panther girls. Heaton didn’t have to make a save in a dominant offensive performance.
The Panther boys put up four goals in the first half and five in the second, finishing one goal away from making it an early night for them as well.
Akbar Wilson, Samuel Schaapen and Dylan White each had two goals. White also led the team in assists, with two.
Xachary LeBlanc had to work a bit in net, saving four shots to secure the shutout victory.
The Panther girls are now 2-0-1, and will host Fairfield (1-0) on Thursday. The Mt. Pleasant boys are 2-1, and will travel on Thursday to play the Trojans (1-1).
