Both the Mt. Pleasant boys and girls soccer teams season came to an end last week.
The Panther girls were defeated on their home field, 5-2, by the Lightning of Iowa City Liberty. The Panther boys were downed by Southeast Conference opponent Fort Madison, 8-0.
Mt. Pleasant showed grit in the girls contest, but a big second half outburst by the Lightning proved to be too much.
After a back and forth first half, the Panthers found themselves down just 2-1.
With the game close in hand, Mt. Pleasant knew what they needed to do.
Liberty had other ideas.
The Panthers got one goal back, but the Lightning topped their first half total with three in the second to seal it.
With the loss, the Mt. Pleasant girls squad ends its spring campaign with a 8-7 record.
In the boys matchup, Mt. Pleasant did all they could to limit the Bloodhounds offensive attack, but the Southeast Conference leaders proved to be too much at home.
The Panthers couldn’t get anything going on the offensive side of the ball and constant pressure by the Bloodhounds in their half of the field mounted.
Fort Madison scored four goals in the first half and added another four in the second, ending the Panthers season.
The Mt. Pleasant boys soccer team ends its season with a final record of 1-16.
