The Mt. Pleasant softball team had a rough time against area foes this weekend. The Panthers started a three-game, two-day stretch with a 10-0 home loss to Mid-Prairie, and then fell twice in the Louisa-Muscatine tournament. Columbus/WACO knocked off the Panthers 9-4 at the L & tourney, and the hosting Falcons beat the Panthers 12-2.
It was all Mid-Prairie on Friday, as the Golden Hawks scored three runs in the first inning, four in the third and three more in the sixth.
Mid-Prairie’s Sydney Knebel pitched a gem, throwing six scoreless innings and striking out nine Panthers in the win.
At the plate, Mid-Prairie’s Hannah Sellers had the big hit of the night, as she went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Knebel, Sophie Miller and Madeline Schrader each had two RBIs. Miller had the team’s only other extra-base hit, with a double.
Mt. Pleasant had just three hits on the day. Saige Burchett, Emma Starr and Kynlee White all finished with hits.
Jolynn Martin was tagged with the loss for Mt. Pleasant, giving up seven runs (three earned) over four innings.
Mt. Pleasant and Columbus/WACO were tied 4-4 heading into the sixth inning at the L & tournament on Saturday. The Wildcats scored one in the sixth and four in the seventh to take the win.
Columbus’ Lily Coil had a fantastic game, going 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs. Victoria Howell knocked in two runs over own, and both Jocelyn Fulton and Sera Vela finished with three hits.
Coil earned the win for the Wildcats, giving up four runs (two earned) over four innings. Kennedy Woepking was great in relief, throwing three scoreless frames.
Burchett had a big game for Mt. Pleasant despite the loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Starr was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Martin gave up nine runs (three earned) over seven innings in the circle.
The Panthers couldn’t contain a tough L & lineup in their second game on Saturday, but Mt. Pleasant did have five hits scattered across the game.
Jersey Beachy led the Mt. Pleasant offense, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs in the loss. Tyi Alter and Myah Starr each threw three innings in the loss.
