KEOKUK — The Mt. Pleasant softball team experienced both highs and lows during Monday night’s doubleheader in Keokuk, rebounding from a tough opening loss to earn a strong win in game two.
The Panthers dropped the first contest 11-4, with Keokuk’s Ada Wood dominating from the circle. Wood pitched a complete game, striking out 11 and adding two RBIs at the plate to power the Chiefs.
For Mt. Pleasant, Keagyn Coleman and Saige Burchett each drove in a run, while Parker Coleman, Jolynn Martin, and Paityn Ensminger collected two hits apiece.
Game two saw a dramatic turnaround, as the Panthers' bats came alive in a 14-9 victory. Mt. Pleasant racked up 15 hits and 11 RBIs, fueled by a big second inning.
Jolynn Martin led the charge with a two-run homer. She finished with four RBIs overall. Ensminger and Chaley Cook each chipped in with RBI doubles during the early offensive burst.
Ensminger and Izzy Sloat both finished with three hits, while Keagyn Coleman, Parker Coleman, and Martin each tallied two. Cook went the distance in the circle, allowing 14 hits and nine earned runs while striking out two.
Now 3-10 on the season, Mt. Pleasant will look to build on the momentum when they host Burlington on Thursday.
