DONNELLSON — The Mt. Pleasant softball team is 0-5 to star the season, but that doesn’t mean the team hasn’t had some close calls.
One night after an 11-3 loss at Oskaloosa, the Panthers battled with regional finalist Central Lee, leading the Hawks early before falling 9-5.
The Panthers led 4-2 after a four-run second inning, which featured a two-run single by Saige Burchett.
Mt. Pleasant has lost by one run to a couple of Union area teams. The Panthers dropped a thrilling 12-11 game against Mid-Prairie on Friday night, a game that saw Golden Hawk sophomore Elise Foster knock in three runs, while Sophia Puttmann knocked in two.
Mt. Pleasant received four RBIs from Keagyn Coleman in the loss.
The Panthers lost their first game in the Louisa-Muscatine tournament 9-0 to the hosting Falcons this weekend. After that, Mt. Pleasant nearly defeated Columbus, but fell 3-2.
Parker Coleman had two RBIs in the loss to Columbus. The Wildcats scored once in the final inning to pull out the win.
