WATERLOO — Three members of the Mt. Pleasant girls bowling team were in Waterloo on Monday for the Class 2A girls individual state meet. The Panthers didn’t quite make the Top-8.
Only eight bowlers at the state meet make it out of the preliminary round to get into bracket play. The closest Panther to the mark was Bethany Drury, who bowled a 529, for 20th place.
Drury, a junior, had a red-hot start, bowling 222 in her first game. That was enough to place her in the Top 8 after Round 1, but the rest of the field caught up in the last two games.
Drury finished out her tournament with a 139 in her second game and a 168 in her third.
Addison McGehearty and Kya Goodrich finished 28th and 29th respectively. McGehearty rolled a 266, and Goodrich finished at 261.
McGehearty rolled a 137 in her first game, a 155 in her second game and a 174 in her third. Goodrich went 141, 139 and 181.
Both McGehearty and Goodrich are seniors, meaning they ended their high school bowling careers at the state meet.
Two of the Top-3 bowlers at the end of the tournament were Keokuk Chiefs. Keokuk sophomore Jaelynn Ketterer won the state championship after going 3-0 in bracket play, and junior Sophia Rule finished third.
The area’s bowling season officially wraps up on Wednesday. Washington’s Caleb Zieglowsky will be in action in Class 1A boys individual action, and both Sigourney-Keota’s Wells Clark and Jayden Montgomery will battle for the Class 1A boys’ title and Class 1A girls’ title respectively.
Results from Wednesday’s meet will be in next Tuesday’s Southeast Iowa Union.
