Panther, Trojan and Demon girls golf falls short in Keokuk
Fairfield girls golf posts top five individual finish at conference tournament

KEOKUK — For the three Union area big schools (Mt. Pleasant, Washington and Fairfield), last Wednesday’s Southeast Conference (SEC) finale was a tough go.
All six SEC squads, including Keokuk, Burlington and Fort Madison, gathered on the Chiefs’ home turf to decide the 2024 SEC team and individual champions.
When all 18 holes were complete, Mt. Pleasant, Fairfield and Washington finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
The Panthers finished with a score of 422, three strokes better than Fairfield’s 425. Washington posted a team score of 442.
While the three area teams failed to get a top three finish, Fairfield did represent in the top five individually. The Trojans’ Ella Bentler took fourth in the SEC meet with a score of 91, earning her an All-SEC Tournament nod.
It was a successful day for both the hosts and Burlington. Keokuk finished as the SEC team champions with a score of 358.
Meanwhile, Burlington’s Lauren Briggs was the individual champion with a score of 73. The Grayhounds finished second as a team with a score of 393, while Fort Madison ended with 398.
For Mt. Pleasant, Ashlynn Beauchamp led the way with a score of 100. Kylie Walderbach followed with a 101. Elaina Holtkamp closed with a 108. Sophia Walderbach carded a 113, Felicity Metcalf a 116 and Vivian Cornell a 140.
Along with Bentler’s score, Fairfield got a 105 from Savannah Hollander. Lucy Kuel carded a 107. Olivia Hollander finished with a 122 and Jacey Harris a 162.
Washington was led by Maci Williams with a 96. Lauren Hinrichsen ended with a 106. Natalie Prochaska shot a 118. Presley Hora had a 122 and Lucy Sands a 123.
At the end of the tournament, All-SEC season distinctions were announced as well. Mt. Pleasant was represented by sisters Kylie and Sophia Walderbach.
Washington finished with one on the 2024 All-SEC list with Maci Williams.
