Panther volleyball hosts home tournament

The final regular season tournament of Mt. Pleasant's season took place on Saturday and it was at MPCHS. Mt. Pleasant went 1-3 in the annual Panther Invitational.
Mt. Pleasant won a three-set match against Pekin for their only victory of the day. The Panthers were swept by Holy Trinity and Central Lee and lost in three sets against Notre Dame.
After a bye in the first round, Mt. Pleasant faced Pekin in their opening set. Every one of the games was decided by three or fewer points.
Mt. Pleasant took the first game 25-22, but Pekin flipped the script completely in set two. After a 25-22 set two win for Pekin, the Panther pulled out at thrilling 15-13 win in the third set.
Seven different Panthers had kills in the win. Sadie Carrasco led the team with five. Avery Sutter had four. Maggie Cristoforo finished with three. Hannah Hess and Elli Liechty had two each, and Anni Liechty and Lexie Magnani had one.
Lyndi Vantiger led the team with nine digs. Ralyn Seberg had nine assists eight digs. A. Liechty finished the game with five assists and six digs.
The Panthers had nine blocks in the win. Carrasco, Cristoforo, A. Liechty and Sutter had two each, and Hess finished with one.
Mt. Pleasant was 56-61 with seven aces serving the ball. Mary West led the way, going 12-12 with three aces. Cristoforo had two aces, and both CARRASCO AND Vantiger had two.
The Panthers had Class 1A's third-ranked Holy Trinity in their next match. Mt. Pleasant stuck close for the majority of the first set but ended up falling 25-17. HTC took the second set 25-10.
Sutter led the team with six kills in the HTC loss. Hess had four, and Cristoforo finished with two.
A. Liechty had seven assists in the loss, and also picked up five digs. Lyndi Vantiger had a team-leading seven digs.
The Panthers had nine blocks against HTC as well. Carrasco and Sutter finished with three each.
Mt. Pleasant went 24-28 with three aces serving the ball. Seberg went 6-7 with two aces to lead the way, and Carrasco was 5-6 with one ace.
The Panthers played an even closer first set against Central Lee, dropping it 25-23. The Hawks finished the sweep with a 25-15 win in set two.
Carrasco and Magnani co-led the team with three kills each in the Central Lee match. Vantiger had eight digs. A. Liechty had six assists, and Sutter led with two blocks.
The Panthers were 32-38 serving the ball, and finished with four aces. Seberg had two aces, and both West and A. Liechty had one.
Mt. Pleasant had a great start against Notre Dame, winning 25-16 in the first set. The Nikes battled back to steal the secnod game 26-24 and beat the Panthers 15-11 in the deciding third set.
Cristoforo's seven kills led the way against Notre Dame. Carrasco and Sutter each had five kills. A. Liechty and Seberg had 10 assists apiece.
A. Liechty had a team-leading five digs. Vantiger and Reece Barton had three each. Sutter led the way with four blocks, and Karsyn Lamm had two.
The Panthers were 55-59 with eight assists on the serve. West was 13-13 with three aces. Seberg went 16-16 with two aces, and the trio of Carrasco, Cristoforo and Lamm had one ace apiece.
Mt. Pleasant will be in action one more time in the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 11. They'll head to Keokuk to look for their first win in Southeast Conference play.
