The Mt. Pleasant cross-country team returns one state qualifier to the 2023 cross-country slate, as senior Ben Carthey returns after making it to the state meet last year.
The Panther boys cross-country team finished fourth in the SEC last year, but the Panthers were just three points behind Burlington, which was the only conference school to lose a Top-10 runner.
Mt. Pleasant put two runners in the Top-10 last year in the boys’ race as both Carthey and sophomore-to-be Jude Dykstra made the Top-10. Dykstra finished eighth.
The Mt. Pleasant boys team upped its numbers last season, and the team looks to be a serious contender to finish in the Top-3 this season.
The Panther girls team is still chasing top SEC teams Washington and Fairfield. Among returners for the Panthers are three of the Top-5 runners from last year, in sophomores Emma Welcher and Aliya Graber, and junior Alexis Wagner.
