Mt. Pleasant pulls out team race in Demons’ home girls meet

WASHINGTON — It was a fierce team race on Thursday in Washington, as Mt. Pleasant went toe-to-toe with the Demons in their home girls track meet. A hotly contested team race went to Mt. Pleasant, which scored 136 points. Washington took second, with 113.
Mt. Pleasant had a double winner in Andi Scott, who took both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Scott finished the 100 in 13.87 seconds, and crossed the line in the 200 in 28.20 seconds.
The Panthers also swept the throws. Ella Ensminger threw the shot put 34 feet, 5.50 inches, for first. Savannah Slobodnik took first in the discus, with a throw of 109-02.
The Panthers had a second-place finish out of Elsie Lange in both the 400-meter hurdles and the long jump. Lange won the 400-hurdles with a final time of 1:13.55, and she took the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 3.50 inches.
Mt. Pleasant’s 4X100 team of Courtney Raub, Kynlee White, Bailey Jalas and Scott took second, in 52.22 seconds. The sprint medley team of Raub, White, Rellana Van Duren and Mica Carter took second in 2:05.66.
Washington’s Iris Dahl won the 400-meter dash, finishing the race in 1:02.92. She took second in the 800-meter run, crossing the tape in 2:35.26.
Ryen Pepper was a winner in the 400-meter hurdles. She edged out Mt. Pleasant’s Lange with a first place time of 1:13.11.
The Demons’ 4X400 squad of Grace Voss, Leighton Messinger, Eden Levetzow and Dahl won in 4:19.08. Washington also had a win in the throwers 4X100 race, as the quartet of Alex Murphy, Kadence Howell, Sadie Van Der Mole and Ally Rees crossed in 1:03.87.
Washington’s 4X800 team of Lauren Horak, Kendall Hinrichsen, Abigail Kleese and Isabella Lujan took second place, crossing in 10:59.67. The distance medley squad of Nevaeh Brown, Levetzow, Carys Miller and Voss finished second, crossing in 4:46.19.
Washington’s shuttle hurdle relay team of Pepper, Leighton Salazar, Nelly Ponce-Cruz and Messinger brought home the silver. The Demons crossed the finish line in 1:13.16.
Voss had a second-place finish for the Demons in the field. She cleared 5 foot even in the high jump to take silver.
