Panthers dominate Tulip Time Relays

PELLA - Both the Mt. Pleasant boys' and girls' track and field teams were a little shorthanded on Thursday night, having a couple of athletes at the Drake Relays, but both teams still picked up wins.
The Mt. Pleasant girls finished the day with 164 points, beating the second-place Dutch by 14.5 points. The boys' team scored 160.5 points, defeating Pella by 27.5.
The girls won six events on the day, including two relays. The sprint medley team of Kenna Lamm, Karsyn Lamm, Maggie Cristoforo and Maggie Jennings won in 1:55.97. The shuttle hurdle team of Maddie Williamson, Cristoforo, Serenity Keomanivong and Karsyn won in 1:12.40.
Mt. Pleasant finished one-two in two events, the 400-meter hurdles and the shot put. Cristoforo won the 400-hurdles in 1:07.32, beating out second-place Kenna, who finished 1:15.55. In the shot put, Lexie Magnani won in 39-01, and Jadan Brumbaugh was second, at 37-04.
Jennings took first in the 800-meter run, crossing the tape in 2:25.93. Karsyn finished first in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing in 17.01 seconds.
The Panther boys won eight events. Cody Mertens led the team with two victories, winning the 3200-meter run in 10:17.75, and taking the 1600 in 4:44.48. Teammate Dalton Moyle finished second in the 1600, running the race in 4:51.44.
Khang Truong took first in the 200-meter dash, crossing in 23.11 seconds. Jacob Stukerjurgen won the 400-meter dash in 52.71 seconds, and Chase Lamm took the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.20 seconds.
The shuttle hurdle team of Zach Beason, Konnor Peterson, Chase Lamm and Tate Shull took the top spot in 1:01.67. Rylan Seberg won the long jump with a leap of 19-11.50, and Riley McQuiggin won the shot put with a 48-00.50.
A handful of Panthers traveled up to Des Moines last night to take part in the Drake Relays today (Friday) and Saturday. The full team will be back together on Thursday, May 9, when they travel to Fairfield for the conference meet.
