Panthers drop pair to end regular season
Mt. Pleasant softball ends season with two losses at Rick Doran Classic

IOWA CITY — Saturday’s Rick Doran Classic marked the end of the regular season for the Mt. Pleasant Panther softball.
It was a tough weekend for the Panther as they dropped two games to Davenport Central, 7-3, and West Liberty 6-2.
Against Davenport Assumption, the Panthers went scoreless in the first two innings.
Mt. Pleasant found a spark in the third, taking a 2-1 lead.
From then on out, it was all the Blue Devils.
Davenport Central tied it with one run in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth.
The Panthers scored one themselves in the sixth, but they could never make up the difference.
Savana Walls, Emma Starr and Kynlee White each finished with two hits. Walls had an RBI as well. Ella McNamee ended with one hit. Saige Burchett also had an RBI.
Tyi Alter pitched for the Panthers, giving up seven runs on eight hits, two walks and one strikeout.
In the second of the two games, Mt. Pleasant got down early with West Liberty scoring three unanswered through the first two innings.
The Panthers scored one in the third, but the Comets increased the lead was again as three additional run crossed home.
Trailing 6-1 after four, the Panthers needed a big scoring output in the final three innings, but they could only get one in the sixth.
Emma Starr, Jordan Crooks, Jayden Housh and Addison Clark each finished with one hit. Crooks ended with a sole RBI for the Panthers.
Myah Starr threw from the circle for the Panthers, giving up six runs (four earned) on five hits, six walks and one strikeout.
Mt. Pleasant will begin its postseason on Thursday with a game against Southeast Conference opposition Fairfield.
