FAIRFIELD - It was another uphill climb for the Mt. Pleasant volleyball team on Tuesday night as the Panthers took on a Trojan squad that has just one Southeast Conference loss this season. The Panthers were unable to pick up their first win of the SEC slate, falling in three sets.
The Trojans were able to get seperation in all three sets on Tuesday, differing from the first meeting between the two squads, in which Mt. Pleasant competed in two of the three games.
Fairfield won the first two sets 25-12 and never let Mt. Pleasant get to double digits in the third, winning 25-9. When the two teams played in late August, Mt. Pleasant fell by just two points in the first set and six in the third.
The Panthers were led offensively by Sadie Carrasco, who finished the night with seven kills from the middle hitter position. April Simon had six digs to lead the defense.
Fairfield was led by senior duo Kara Jeffrey and Alison Godwin. Jeffrey had 10 kills on the night and Godwin had eight.
In other news around the conference, Washington scored a comeback five-set win over Keokuk (22-25, 13-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-10). That win made third place unreachable for the Panthers.
Mt. Pleasant can still rally for fourth place in the conference if they can win their final two SEC games. The Panthers play Washington on Tuesday, Oct. 2, and Keokuk on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Sandwiched in between those games is the home tournament on Saturday, Oct. 6.
