Panthers easily claim first at Hawk Relays

WELLMAN ? The Mt. Pleasant boys? track and field team went to Mid-Prairie for the Hawk Co-Ed Relays, and they came away with a win in the team scores, as well as first-place finishes in six events.
The Panthers scored 141 points on the night, leading their next closest competitior, host Mid-Prairie, by 50. The Golden Hawks scored 91 points for second place, followed by Washington with 78; Grinnell, 68; West Liberty, 62; Williamsburg, 55; Eddyville-Blakesburg, 49; and Maharishi, 2.
Logan Mulford had a top finish for the Panthers with a 5-8 high jump. In the 100-meter dash, Demetrius Goode finished first in a time of 11.26 seconds.
The Panthers also won the shuttle hurdle; the team of Cole Phillips, Blake Vandenberg, Tommy Thorne and Brandon Moorman finished in :59.26.
Moorman won the 110-meter hurdles as well, finishing in a time of :14.47, and he took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of :22.54.
The Panthers? final first-place finish came from Thorne in the 400 meter hurdles, which he ran in a time of :57.24.
Thorne also had a second-place finish for the Panthers, with a time of :54.56 in the 400-meter dash. Also taking second for Mt. Pleasant was Justin Dunn in the shot put (44-11 1/2); the distance medley team of Vandenberg, Spencer White, Donnie Johnson and Zach May (3:55.61); and the 4x100 team of Josh Larson, Goode, Dalton Conrad and Moorman (:45.04).
Mt. Pleasant also claimed three third-place finishes: Dunn in the discus (144-0); Emmett Wester in the shot put (44-5 1/2); and the 4x800 team of Johnson, Clayle Franklin, Drew Perry and Nate Smith (8:47.19).
The Panthers will be back on the track tonight when they travel to Eddyvillle for a meet that begins at 5 p.m.
