Panthers edged by Ft. Madison

BLOOMFIELD ? The Mt. Pleasant boys? track and field team claimed one win and several runner-up finishes at the Davis County Relays on Tuesday, but the Panthers fell just short of a team win.
Ft. Madison took the top spot as a team with 123 points, just ahead of the Panthers with 120. Host team Davis County came in third with 103 points, followed by Centerville with 70; Oskaloosa, 59; Albia, 55; and Scottland County, 19.
The shuttle hurdle team of Cole Phillips, Blake Vandenberg, Spencer White and Kendall Porth had the lone first-place finish for the Panthers at the meet, running the event in :62.18.
Taking sceond place for the Panthers was Zach May in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:35.12. He was joined in second by Tommy Thorne in the 400 hurdles (:57.00); Emmett Wester in the shot put (46-9) and discus (133-11); and Logan Mulford in the high jump (5-6). Also placing second was the 4x800 team of Clayle Franklin, Thorne, Drew Perry and Nate Smith.
Some of the Panthers are at Drake this weekend; the full team will compete again on May 3 at the SEC meet in Mt. Pleasant.
