Panthers fall in three

MT. PLEASANT - The 15th-ranked Burlington Grayhounds completed their Southeast Conference sweep on Tuesday night, finishing off a perfect conference run with a three-set win over Mt. Pleasant.
The Panthers fell 25-8, 25-15 and 25-14 to the visting Grayhounds, snapping a two-game winning streak in the process.
Mt. Pleasant was coming off two-straight wins over Fairfield, one in the Ottumwa tournament and one in league play.
The Panthers finished the year 1-4 in the conference. Along with Tuesday's loss to Burlington and the win over Fairfield in five, Mt. Pleasant lost in four sets to Ft. Madison and five sets to both Washington and Keokuk.
Burlington, on the other hand, did not lose a single set in SEC play, sweeping all four confernece opponents on their way to the crown.
Mt. Pleasant is now 5-17 overall. They will host a nonconfernce game against Knoxville on Thursday, Oct. 3, which will be their last regular season home game.
The Grayhounds went to 17-2 overall with the win.
