FAIRFIELD - The girls' golf rivalry between No. 4 Washington and Mt. Pleasant heated up a little more on Monday when the two went down to the wire at the Fairfield triangular. After defeating the Demons by one stroke the last time they met, the Panthers fell by five strokes, 184-189. Fairfield didn't have enough players to qualify, and finished third.
Michal Wohlleber was the star for Mt. Pleasant. She was the runner-up after tying for first and losing on cardback. She finished the day at 42.
Anni Liechty and Eli Liechty tied for second on the team, both shooting a 48. Melody Miller finished at 51 to be the fourth Panther scorer.
Grace Sheetz was just off the Panther top four with a 54. Alex Gerling shot a 55, and Sami Wibben finished at 57.
The Panthers will be right back at home for their next match on Friday, April 26. Mt. Pleasant will host Clear Creek-Amana, Grinnell, Iowa City Liberty, Muscatine, Notre Dame and Ottumwa in their annual home tournament.
