Panthers go 3-1 at Tiger Duals

GRINNELL - The Mt. Pleasant wrestling team continued to perform at a high level this weekend when they traveled to Grinnell for the Tiger Duals. The Panthers went 3-1 on the day, beating Grinnell 63-18, Wilton 60-18 and ADM 48-24. Their only loss came against East Marshall, 37-35.
Mt. Pleasant started the Grinnell dual 15-0 to put the hosting school on the ropes early. Zach Beason won 8-4 in the 220 lbs. match, and Chase Adams (285 lbs.) and Corbin Broeker (106 lbs.) each picked up a first-period pin. Broeker's pin came in just 13 seconds.
Carson Coleman fell via pinfall at 113 lbs., and Brayden Ackles won via forfeit at 120 lbs. After back-to-back losses at 126 lbs. and 132 lbs., the Panthers closed the match with seven straight wins.
There were six pins in a row by Mt. Pleasant. Avante Henley (138 lbs.), Nathan Wallace (145 .bs), Abe Wilson (152 lbs.), Jayden Davis (160 lbs.), James DeMeyer (170 lbs.) and Brennen Bender (182 lbs.) all pinned their opponnent. The fastest pin came from Bender, who pinned his man in 52 seconds. Sam Carrasco closed the game out with a win via forfeit.
The Panthers went down 9-0 early against Wilton, but responded with two straight wins. Coleman pinned his man in 2:54, and Brayden Ackles (120 lbs.) picked up a pin in 54 seconds.
Tyler Raub won via pinfall in 2:53. Henley won via forfeit, and after a loss at 145 lbs., the Panthers won six in a row.
There were two straight wins by forfeit for Mt. Pleasant, one by Wilson and one by Jeff Taylor, who stepped in at 160 lbs. Davis won the 170 lbs. match via pinfall, and his win was followed by three more pins, one each by DeMeyer, Carrasco and Beason.
Mt. Pleasant had four pins in the two-point loss to East Marshall. Coleman, Taylor, Davis and DeMeyer each won by pin. Wilson and Wallace won by major decision, and Beason won a 3-2 decision.
The Panthers closed the day out with a 24-point win over ADM. Pins came from Raub, Wallace, Davis and Broeker. Ackles won via a 5-3 decision. Wilson won 5-2. DeMeyer and Beason each won by Sudden Victory. Mt. Pleasant will be back in Southeast Conference action on Thursday, Dec. 13, at home. The Panthers will host Ft. Madison in an attempt to move to 2-0 in the conference.
