Mt. Pleasant returns to Fort Madison after buzzer-beater in 2024

FORT MADISON — Fort Madison’s most devastating loss of the 2024 football season was against a school visiting from 32 miles up the road.
Less than one year after now-senior Dylan White sent a game-winning 30-yard field goal through the uprights to spoil the Bloodhounds’ homecoming game, 16-14.
Last year’s win in Fort Madison snapped a streak of four blowout wins by the Bloodhounds in the series. Now, Mt. Pleasant aims to gets a second win in two years at Fort Madison Junior and Senior High School, as the Bloodhounds host the Panthers in the Homecoming game once again.
Mt. Pleasant comes into the bout 4-1 overall and 1-0 in Class 3A District 4 play. A victory would give the Panthers their first five-win season since 2019.
Fort Madison has struggled early in the fall. The Bloodhounds are 0-5 overall and 0-1 in district play.
Mt. Pleasant’s Grayson Walker has thrown for 628 yards and five touchdowns this season, while only turning the ball over one time. He has three receivers over 100 yards, as Kaden Schadt leads the way with 178 yards. Brody Clark has the most catches on the team, with 14, along with 161 yards and two touchdowns, and Isaiah Lange has 135 yards receiving and two scores.
Ramzy Davis leads the rushing attack with 349 yards and nine scores on the ground. Ryan Helling has now run for 200 yards and two scores, while Griffen Jones has found the end zone four times on the ground and once in the return game.
Mt. Pleasant’s Max Sloat has 26 tackles to lead the Panther defense. Altogether, Mt. Pleasant has turned opponents over 13 times, collecting eight interceptions, including Clark’s pick-six last week, and five fumble recoveries.
Fort Madison quarterback Stefan Berlett has thrown for 316 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Moses Thatcher and Eric Cornelis have combined for 508 yards and seven scores, with Thatcher’s 304 yards and five touchdowns leading the way.
Mt. Pleasant may have some success putting points on the board. Fort Madison has given up 32 or more points in four of its five losses.
The game on Friday night has a kickoff time of 7:30 p.m.
