MT. PLEASANT — Winless no more is the Mt. Pleasant boys basketball team.
The Panther boys, who had lost by double digits in their first three games of the season, flipped the script on Friday night by securing a double-digit win, running away from Ft. Madison 58-45.
The Panthers were red-hot early on, scoring a game-high 17 points in the first quarter, while leaving the Bloodhounds with just five to grab a double-digit lead after the first eight minutes.
The Bloodhounds scrapped back to turn that 17-5 deficit into just a 26-21 Mt. Pleasant lead by halftime, however, and it was game on into the second half.
The game was back-and-forth for the most part in the third quarter, but Mt. Pleasant was able to push the lead just a little bit. The Panthers went up 42-35 at the end of the third, and then added on in the fourth, thanks in most part to the outside-inside game of Aiden Humble and Isaiah Lange.
Humble and Lange combined for 37 points in the win. Humble went for 19, on 7-for-12 shooting from the field and 5-for-8 from behind the 3-point line. Lange scored 18 points on 7-for-13 shooting, and also pulled down 16 rebounds.
“It’s a big win,” said Humble. “People are going to treat us differently now that they know we’re here. Last year, everyone kind of treated us like we were trash, but this year, we’re different.”
Keegan Heaton scored 10 points, including six-straigiht in the fourth, which included back-to-back dunks. Carter Gehling had five points. Ian Reid had three, and Grayson Lowery finished with one.
“Our chemistry is building,” said Lange. “We’ve just got to keep building it.”
The win moved Mt. Pleasant to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
