FORT MADISON — The Mt. Pleasant volleyball team didn’t say die, down 0-2 in Fort Madison on Tuesday night. In fact, the Panthers nearly pulled off an impeccable rally before the hosting Bloodhounds left it just short.
Mt. Pleasant and Fort Madison battled all night long. Every single one of the five sets were decided by four points or less. The Bloodhounds took the first two, both by the score of 25-22. Mt. Pleasant responded with two-straight 25-21 wins to tie it up at 2-2.
But in the final set, the Bloodhounds had just a bit left to put away the visiting Panthers. Fort Madison took the fifth set 15-12.
Mt. Pleasant spread the ball around well, as four different hitters had over 30 kill attempts. Emma Starr collected 10 kills on the night to lead the way.
Addison Clark had nine kills and four blocks on the night. Myah Starr finished with eight. Alex Scott had four. Zoey Atkinson tallied three, and Courtney Raub finished with two.
Abby Carthey dished out 24 assists on the day. The defense was balanced, with Scott leading the team with 15 digs, and Raub, Emma Starr, Carthey and Clark each totaling 14.
Mt. Pleasant fell to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play with the loss. The Panthers will travel to Wilton on Saturday for a tournament, which includes Burlington, Highland, Mediapolis and Winfield-Mount Union.
