MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant girls tennis team was back at East Lake Park on Monday night, facing off with West Burlington/Notre Dame/Danville in a non-conference battle.
The Panthers had the win clinched before the first ball was hit, as Notre Dame had just three players, meaning the Nikes had could only get a maximum of four wins out of the nine scheduled contests.
Two Panthers picked up victories in singles competition. Mia Gray won the No. 2 singles match 8-3 over WB/ND/Danville’s Chloee Anderson, and Katana Phangchanthong defeated Lacie Felkins 8-2.
Lila Cook played a tough No. 1 singles match against WB/NB/Danville’s Paige Kramer. Kramer pulled it out 9-7.
In doubles, the only team that competed was the No. 1 team of Cook and Bella Dodds. The Panthers’ top duo defeated Anderson and Felkins 8-2.
Dodds received a win by forfeit at No. 1 singles, as did both Lianah Phangchanthon and Lucca Moyes, at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.
Also winning by forfeit was the No. 2 doubles team of Gray and Katana Phangchanthong, as well as the No. 3 doubles team of Lianah Phangchanthong and Moyes.
The Panthers are now 1-1 on the season. Mt. Pleasant plays its first road game at Burlington on Thursday.
