Panthers place third at Northeast Volleyball Invitational
Mt. Pleasant wins pair of matches to take third overall

GOOSE LAKE — Mt. Pleasant volleyball had itself yet another busy weekend, as the Panthers headed up to Northeast High School to compete in the Northeast Volleyball Invitational.
It was a pretty successful weekend to say the least, as the Panthers won two of their three games, notching them a third overall finish in the tournament.
Along with Mt. Pleasant, hosts Northeast, Calamus-Wheatland, Maquoketa, Prince of Peace, Camanche and Williamsburg all competed as well.
As for the Panther’s competition on Saturday, it featured Prince of Peace, Northeast and Camanche.
The pair of wins for Mt. Pleasant came against Prince of Peace and Camanche, both 2-1 victories for the Panthers.
Mt. Pleasant won the opening set in each match, but the opposition took the second. The Panthers showed poise to battle back and win the third despite the tie.
Against Prince of Peace, Mt. Pleasant dominated the first set, 21-10, but the Irish answered back with a 21-18 victory in the second
The Panthers were able to survive with a narrow 15-12 final set win.
Alex Scott, Emma Starr and Myah Starr all finished with four kills against the Irish. Kynlee White and Zoey Atkinson each had three and Megan Borders two.
Leading in assists was Abby Carthey with 18.
Carthey ended with nine digs for Mt. Pleasant. Scott finished with five digs and Emma Starr had four.
Courtney Raub, Emma Starr and Atkinson had three aces, while Scott and Carthey each had two.
In the Panther’s three set victory against Camanche, Scott finished with a high of eight kills. Myah Starr followed with five and Kynlee White had four.
Carthey once again finished with 17 assists.
Scott tallied 11 digs. Emma Starr ended with nine.
Myah Starr lead the way in serving with four aces.
Mt. Pleasant’s lone loss to Northeast was a competitive one.
The Panthers fell in a tightly contest first set 21-18. Northeast followed with yet another win in the second, 21-13.
Emma Starr, Myah Starr and Zoey Atkinson each finished with three kills in the match. Kynlee White and Alex Scott both had two.
Carthey tallied nine assists in the loss.
Emma Starr ended with seven digs, while Myah Starr had three. Atkinson, Carthey, Sonya Simon and Scott each had two.
Currently, Mt. Pleasant sits at 6-21 on the season.
