NEW LONDON — Mt. Pleasant boys basketball put together it most efficient offensive performance of the season on Tuesday night at New London.
The Panthers drop in at least 20 points in all four quarters on their way to a 87-42 victory over New London.
Mt. Pleasant set the tone early and New London could never get back into it. The Panthers opened the game up with 20 points in the first frame, but it was the Panther defense that stood out the most.
The Panthers forced the Tigers into contested shot after shot, ultimately holding them to just two points in the quarter.
New London found its offense in the second, notching a quarter high 16 points, but Mt. Pleasant got even better too. The second marked the Panthers highest scoring quarter of the evening as well. They poured in a game high 27 points in the second, which was good enough to put them ahead 47-18 at the break.
Things didn’t change in the second half either. The Panthers nearly matched their first half total, scoring 20 each in the third and fourth periods. Mt. Pleasant led 67-31 after three. During that 16 minute time frame, New London finished with just 24 points.
Four finished in double-figures for Mt. Pleasant. Payton Hagans scored 25 points, followed by Christian Stacy with 17 points, and Nate Stroud and Avin Truong each carded 10 points.
New London was led by Brendan Richey with 13 points. Brigham Porter followed with 10.
