Mt. Pleasant will play its second consecutive away game against a district opponent when it travels to Centerville tomorrow night.
?We?ve been working on a lot of things (in practice),? Head Coach Bob Jensen said. ?We?ve spent the largest amount of time on defense. We?re working with our kick-off team, too ? we have to keep people from scoring on us.?
Last week against Fairfield, the Panthers allowed the Trojans to return a kickoff for a touchdown early in the game, and the team allowed Williamsburg to do the same thing twice the week before.
Williamsburg scored 40 points in that game, and Fairfield put 44 on the board against the Panthers. This week, the defense has gotten a workout to prepare them for the next game.
Even without making changes to last week?s starting lineup, Jensen is hoping to see a different team take the field this week? one that?s ready to make the big plays and stop Centerville from doing the same.
?We?re hoping for a different outcome, of course,? Jensen said. ?But we?re hoping just to play better. We have to attack the line of scrimmage from both sides of the ball.?
Last year, the Panthers beat Centerville 49-6, but Centerville has gotten a little more experience since that game.
?They were really young last year, I think,? Jensen said.
So far, the Big Reds are also 1-2 on the season after winning their opener at Albia then losing to Davis County and, last week, losing to Oskaloosa.
