Panthers set for matchup with No. 5 Mustangs

MT. VERNON — Mt. Pleasant will face one of its biggest test of the season on Friday night when it heads to No. 5 Mount Vernon.
The Panthers (2-2) enter the road trip off a tough loss to Burlington, 42-14, last week.
Meanwhile, after a 3-0 start to begin the season, the Mustangs suffered their first loss of the season last week. A 7-6 final against No. 1 Solon.
Thus far, Zach Newton has thrown for a team high 210 yards and one touchdown for the Panthers. Cooper Coleman follows with 107 yards and a touchdown as well.
Payton Walker has 186 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Coleman has 177 yards rushing and two scores as well.
On the receiving side of things, Avin Truong has caught five passes for 160 yards. Walker has 77 yards receiving on five catches as well.
Defensively, Walker leads with 40.5 tackles and 9.5 tackles for a loss.
For Mount Vernon, Kellen Haverback has thrown for 621 yards and four touchdowns.
Cooper Hird has ran for 181 yards and found the end zone five times.
Jase Jaspers has caught 21 passes for 310 yards and one touchdown.
Jaxon Anderson has 23.5 tackles with five tackles for a loss and three sacks.
Mount Vernon defeated Mt. Pleasant back in 2023, 76-14.
