Panthers shut out Tigers in first quarter en route to lopsided victory
Mt. Pleasant holds New London to single digits in all four quarters

MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant picked up win number two on Monday night with a commanding victory over New London 52-14.
The Panthers asserted their dominance right from the jump. Through the opening period, the Panthers built a 11-0 lead kick-started by baskets from Myah Starr and Abby Carthey.
Mt. Pleasant went up by as much as 15-0 in the second quarter before the Tigers first bucket.
The Panther lead only got bigger through the latter stages of the first half as they made 27-2 with around three minutes to play.
New London followed with some of its best ball of the night as Mylee Miller and Morgan Jones paced the Tigers to a cool six points through that span, but the Panthers still found themselves up 31-8 at the half.
New London scored the first points of the second half off a Jones free throw within the first minute, but to the Tigers’ dismay that was all they would muster in the third period.
Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant added to its total through the quarter to make it 45-9 heading into the final frame. The Panthers ended the night outscoring the Tigers 7-5 in the final quarter.
Abby Carthey finished with 14 points for the Panthers. Alexa Fuller added 11 points and Myah Starr scored 10.
For New London, Mylee Miller ended with eight points. Morgan Jones posted four points and Madelynn Nelson had two.
Mt. Pleasant moves to 2-8 with the win, while New London drops to 0-10.
