Girls shutout the Bears, boys get shutout
MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant boys and girls soccer teams hosted West Branch on Thursday in a non-conference bout.
For the girls, it was a commanding victory. The Panthers defeated the Bears 9-0 in the matchup.
On the boys side, the Panthers were topped by the Bears 6-0.
The girls held control for the majority of the contest, creating opportunity after opportunity in goal.
In the first half alone, the Panthers slipped in five goals.
The second half was more of the same, as West Branch had no solution for the Panther attack. Mt. Pleasant added another four goals in the second to solidify the win.
Elly Manning scored three goals along with three assists in the win. Andrea Lopreato also tallied three goals and two assists. Charice Auwerda finished with two goals and one assist. Abby West had one goal in the match. Tori Wilson and Mattisyn Wenke each added one assist.
Leslie Lopez made five saves in goal, Ale Figueroa Garcia had two and Evelyn Escobar tallied one.
The girls increase their win total to eight games, now sitting at 8-5.
The Panther boys had no answer for the Bears in their match.
West Branch offensive prowess proved to be too much, and Mt. Pleasant struggled to get any offense going itself.
The Bears took a total of 40 shots in the contest with 22 on goal. On the contrary, the Panthers took just two total shots in the match.
Rudy Ruiz Motta made eight saves for the Panthers.
With the loss, the Panthers move to 1-14 on the season.
