Panthers split in opener
The Mt. Pleasant seventh-grade maroon team dropped its home and season opener to Edward Stone (Burlington) on Tuesday, 14-8, but the gold team came up with a 30-14 victory.

The Mt. Pleasant seventh-grade maroon team dropped its home and season opener to Edward Stone (Burlington) on Tuesday, 14-8, but the gold team came up with a 30-14 victory.
In the maroon game, Zach Beason ran 15 yards for the Panthers? only touchdown, and then threw a pass to Chase Lamm for the 2-point conversion as the Panthers took an 8-0 lead in the second quarter.
Edward Stone cut that lead to two with a touchdown in the third quarter, and then scored the winning touchdown with 3:28 left in the game.
Beason finished 8-of-15 passing for 111 yards. Levi Puig had two catches for 49 yards. Rhett Zeglin had a 30-yard reception and Jake Stukerjurgen made four catches for 21 yards. Lamm had an 11-yard reception.
Trace White had a team-high 31 rushing yards.
The Panthers recovered four fumbles in the game; James De Meyer had two recoveries.
In the gold game, Tabian Waddle had a 49-yard touchdown run, Jeremiah Miles carried for a pair of touchdowns ? 43 yards and 30 yards ? and Hunter Faul made a 3-yard run into the end zone.
Miles, Waddle and Bryce Anderson each ran for a two-point conversion. Waddle finished with 102 rushing yards on the day and Miles had 73. Anderson came up with 51 yards.
Braden Denning recovered a fumble.
The teams will play again Tuesday at Fairfield.
