Panthers take SEC title

WASHINGTON - Mt. Pleasant didn't leave any doubt on Tuesday in Washington. The Panther boys' golf team won the Southeast Conference championship by 30 strokes, shooting a 328 on the day.
Washington placd second, shooting 358. Fairfield wasn't far behind, at 364. Ft. Madison shot 395, and Keokuk finished at 407.
Jake Moffett was the top Panther in the clubhouse. He shot a 35 on the front nine and a 42 on the back to finish at 77, which was one shot out of first. He was beaten by Washington's Brock Sobaski and Brady Knutson, who each shot 76 on their home course.
Trace White took fourth overall with an 81. He shot 43 on the front nine and 38 on the back nine. Bailey Shelledy shot a 41 on the front and a 43 on the back to finish at 84. He took fifth place overall.
Brevin Wilson brought in the fourth score for Mt. Pleasant, finishing at 86. He shot a 46 on the front nine and a 40 on the back. Rhett Zeglen shot 45 and 48 to finish at 93, and Reece Kempker shot a 54 and a 50 to end the day at 104.
'This feels great,” said head coach Rob Zeglen after the meet. 'This was our goal coming into the tournament. Feels great to be conference champions. We have had some pretty good teams the last few years and just fell short, taking second to Washington the last few years. Feels good to beat them on their home course.”
The Panther girls will travel to Keokuk on Monday, May 13 for their SEC tournament. That will begin at 9 a.m.
