TIPTON — Mt. Pleasant went into Tipton on Friday night looking to put a pair of early losses behind them, but instead a frustrating night in non-district play kept the Panther football team winless.
Mt. Pleasant’s offense never got off the ground, as the Panthers fell to Tipton, 35-7, a mark that left them 0-3 to start the season.
The Panthers weren’t just stumped by the Tipton defense, but the Tigers also took out starting quarterback Cooper Coleman, who left with injury. In his place came running back Payton Walker.
Mt. Pleasant played Tipton evenly in the first quarter, but the Tigers led 21-0 at halftime.
The game went into the fourth quarter with Tipton still leading by three touchdowns. Mt. Pleasant’s lone score of the game was a 66-yard reception by Jurha Turner, who busted loose on a screen.
Mt. Pleasant will return home next week when they host Burlington (1-2). The Grayhounds picked up an 18-13 win over Keokuk this weekend, their first of the season.
