It’s been a quite some time since Southeast Conference basketball fans have seen Mt. Pleasant, Washington and Fairfield boys basketball on the hardwood.
But they wont have to wait much longer as the trio all kick off their seasons this week with Mt. Pleasant playing on Monday, while Washington and Fairfield play on Tuesday.
All three will look to get the season started on the right note.
Mt. Pleasant gets things going against Cedar Rapids Washington at home on Monday.
The Warriors and Panthers have matched up six times since 2018 and Cedar Rapids Washington has won all but one contest.
Mt. Pleasant’s lone win came back in 2020, a narrow one point victory 55-54. Meanwhile, the Warriors have won three in a row with the latest victory coming last year 58-33.
The Panthers will end their week with matchups on Friday and Saturday against SEC foe Burlington and West Burlington respectively.
Fairfield has a busy schedule this week as well. The Trojans open their season against Oskaloosa at home.
Fairfield has gotten the better of the Indians in recent years. While Oskaloosa holds a 12-4 historical record against the Trojans, Fairfield has won the last two meetings, including a win last year 65-63.
The Trojans will play two more games before the end of the week. Those will be against Hillcrest Academy on Thursday and Fort Madison on Friday. Both games are away from home.
Like Mt. Pleasant and Fairfield, Washington will open its season at home.
The Demons and Blue Demons have faced off seven times since 2007. Washington holds the matchup record at 4-3. Albia did get the better of Washington last season though by a score of 76-71.
To end the week, Washington will travel up to Grinnell to face the Tigers on Thursday and then will be back at home on Friday against Southeast Conference’s own Keokuk.
