MT. PLEASANT — After 10 games of the 2025-26 season, the Mt. Pleasant boys basketball team had just three wins. Now, three games later, the Panthers are one win away from .500.
The Panthers put together another defensive gem on Monday night against visiting Mid-Prairie, toppling the Golden Hawks 49-42.
The Panthers came back from a 20-18 halftime deficit to lead the game 34-29 after three quarters. Mid-Prairie battled back to tie the game with three minutes left, cashing in on one of Bryce Henry’s three 3-pointers, but the Panthers were too much down the stretch.
“The conversation at half was to stay locked in defensively,” said Mt. Pleasant head coach Eric Rawson. “We knew we had to do some things different offensively, be a lot more patient, and get some block touches.”
The Panthers’ strong inside scoring attack led to a 41.5% shooting performance, compared to Mid-Prairie’s 27.1% clip. That effort was led by Isaiah Lange, who finished with 13 points and eight rebounds just three nights after hitting the game-winner in Ft. Madison.
Isaiah’s older brother, Noah Lange nearly collected a double-double, scoring nine points and pulling down nine rebounds. Isaiah says a lot of is success is due to the two playing so well together.
“He can see me the whole time, and he’s looking for me too,” Isaiah Lange said. “Especially when they have to double team him, he’s big down there and he can pass it off to me.”
Aiden Humble was Mt. Pleasant’s second-leading scorer, putting in 10 points. Grayson Lowery had nine. Ryan Helling finished with four, and Carter Gehling scored two.
Mid-Prairie was led by Henry’s 17 points. Brooks Weber finished with eight points and eight rebounds. Hudson Ehrenfelt scored seven. Carson Humphrey had four, and both Clayton Davidson and Bo Pennington finished with three.
Mid-Prairie did bounce back one night later by dropping Durant 74-57 in River Valley South play. The Golden Hawks are now 7-3 overall and 10-5 in conference play.
Mt. Pleasant moved to 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the Southeast Conference. The Panthers can move to .500 overall and in the league with a win over rival Washington, which comes into Mt. Pleasant on Friday night.
“It’s going to be a real fun game, and should be high intensity, and a good atmosphere,” said Rawson. “Obviously, when Washington comes to town, everybody needs to show up. Not just us, but the fan base needs to show up, the student section needs to show up, and we’ll be dialed in.”
