AMES ? U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee, and Adaptive Sports Iowa have partnered to create Paralympic Sport - Central Iowa.
Paralympic Sport - Central Iowa is a community-based sports club developed to involve youth and adults with physical and visual disabilities in ongoing sports and physical activity, regardless of skill level. All programs and activities will be based in Central Iowa and run by Adaptive Sports Iowa.
?U.S. Paralympics is dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals with physical and visual disabilities to be physically active in their own communities,? said Mike Mushett, U.S. Paralympics director of community programs. ?Participation in physical activity enhances not only self-esteem and peer relationships, but also results in greater achievement, better overall health and higher quality of life.?
Adaptive Sports Iowa was established in March 2011 as a program of the Iowa Sports Foundation with the intent of establishing sport and recreational opportunities for Iowa?s physically disabled population.
?We?re thrilled to be affiliated with the US Paralympics,? said Mike Boone, director of Adaptive Sports Iowa. ?Receiving a sport club designation will only improve our ability to serve Iowa.?
