Pekin back in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS ? Pekin hosted its final unlimited-entry meet of the year Thursday at Coe College, and the Panthers showed off their depth once more before turning their attention to conference and district meets coming up next month.

No team scores were kept, but Bryce Sines had another big night and helped the Panthers to wins in four different events. The junior was the top finisher in the long jump (19? 10.5?), 100 (11.50) and 200 (23.08) as well as anchoring the 4x100-relay team to a winning time of 46.02.

Trey Sathoff, Josh Sterling, and Quinton Garrels led off the relay.

Sathoff made his own noise earlier in the evening as he battled Olin?s Jordan Cress in the high jump. Sathoff cleared 6-feet, 6-inches, but settled for second as Cress posted a mark of 6-feet, 9-inches, which ties him for the best jump in the state this year.

The next closest competitor in the event bowed out at 5-feet, 10-inches.

Sines and Sathoff were also part of Pekin?s second-place 4x200-relay team that finished in 1:38.33. Graham Wittrock added another runner-up finish in the 400-hurdles (1:02.86).

Next up for the Panthers is a trip to Eddyville-Blakesburg Tuesday.
