It may have taken two days, but Ruritan Relays have finally come to a close.
The Pekin boys? track team?s first home meet of the season Monday allowed for the Panthers to finally get outside, but rain postponed the second half of the meet until Tuesday. Five class two teams, which includes Pekin and Cardinal, returned to finish the meet, but class one teams did not return and left their scores as they were on Monday.
?It was sure nice to have a meet outside,? Pekin coach Davis Eidahl said. ?The weather was not the best, but we won?t complain.?
Pekin dominated the team score and won by a total of 93 points over the second place team. The Panthers won multiple individual events to go along with winning the 4x200, 4x800 and medley relay.
Chase Copeland had a busy meet. Not only did he take home wins in the 200 meter dash and 100 meter dash, but he also ran on the medley relay, 4x200 relay and 4x100 relay teams. After running at the state meet last season, Copeland certainly looks poised to make a return trip.
As for field events, Pekin?s Eric Adam and Brody Long finished first and second in the shot put. Long would go to on take first place in the discus as well.
?I can see our team gaining experience and starting to progress,? Eidahl said. ?That is always nice to have.?
Cardinal?s Tyler Albert finished first in the 400 hurdles and second in the 110 high hurdles. The Comets finished in third place with 94 points.
?Tyler Albert is looking good in hurdle races and has got stronger in offseason,? Cardinal coach Jerald Harter said. ?Hopefully next week we will have everybody healthy and will be able to run a full schedule.?
Van Buren finished second in class one in points with 66.
