Pekin came up just short of first place at its home track Monday when it hosted the Panther Relays.
The boys? track meet was won by Albia, which earned the victory with 156 overall points. The Panthers scored 119.5 points. Davis County, Cardinal, Highland and Danville placed third through sixth to round out the field.
?Our runners had a lot of fun in this meet,? Pekin coach Davis Eidahl said. ?When you have a meet with only six teams, the meet goes fast, you have good competition, and the competitors have a good time.?
Pekin?s Eric Adam and Jared Bond continued their recent win streaks in the field events. Adam won the shot put and Bond won the discus. Cardinal?s Tyler Albert won the long jump. His teammate, Charlie Rachford, finished right behind him and right in front of Pekin?s Zac Buller. Albert also had a second place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles.
Austin Fariss earned second place in the 1600-meter run for Pekin with the time of 4:55.00. Teammate Ryan Millikin earned third and was just two seconds behind Millikin. Malcolm Myers grabbed second place in the 3200-meter run, narrowly getting edged by Highland?s Evan Mahler.
Five of Pekin?s relay teams finished in third place. The 4x200 team, comprised of Buller, Chase Copeland, Tyler Copeland and Christian Wittrock, finished just one second behind Davis County with the time of 1:39.41
?We had a great effort from our team,? Eidahl said. ?Each meet I can see us growing.?
