Pekin, Cardinal, Van Buren all play on busy night for hoops
Pekin falls to Lone Tree to begin year
The Pekin Panthers lost to begin the season 70-61 Tuesday on the road in Lone Tree.
Jared Bond led the Panthers with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Cade Millikin also played well, tossing in 10 points, dishing out five assists and recording four steals. Eric Adam scored nine points.
Lone Tree, which went 25-2 last season, defeated Pekin twice last season during conference play.

Pekin falls to Lone Tree to begin year
The Pekin Panthers lost to begin the season 70-61 Tuesday on the road in Lone Tree.

Cardinal begins season with win
The Cardinal boys? basketball team got off to a great start by defeating Central Lee 64-51 Tuesday in Eldon.
Junior Cody Streeby led the Comets with 23 points. Streeby also recorded 10 rebounds and three steals. Senior Charlie Rachford drained two from behind the arc enroute to an 18-point performance. He led Cardinal with four steals.
?We stepped up on the defensive side of the floor when we needed to,? Cardinal coach Jay Olson said.
Kaleb Durflinger, Cardinal?s big man down low, scored 13 points and led the team with 11 rebounds before fouling out of the game.
The Comets host Burlington Notre Dame on Friday.
Van Buren defeats New London
The Van Buren boys? basketball team defeated New London Tuesday by the score of 68-31.
The Warriors dominated the first half, using a 24-point second quarter to take a 39-13 lead by halftime. Garrett Saunders and Will Mertens both scored 14 points to lead the team. Senior Thomas Fitzsimmons put in 13 points and his classmate Tanner Smith scored 12 points.
Van Buren is off to a good start and will host Harmony on Friday. If the Warriors can defeat Harmony, they will take a 2-0 record into their road matchup against powerhouse Danville.
MSAE loses to West Burlington
The Pioneers suffered a 83-41 loss Tuesday in their opening game to West Burlington.
The Falcons led by 30 at the end of the first quarter and coasted to a win.
Suraj Pullapantula lead the Pioneers with seven points, while Avery Mullenneaux, Bimba Shrestha and Michael Fleshman each had six.
Their next game is Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic.
