BLOOMFIELD ? The Pekin boys? track and field team was winners 13 of 18 events and cruised to the team title at the Dennis Anderson Relays Monday night.
Bryce Sines once again led the Panther charge winning both short sprint events with a 100-meter dash time of 11.51 and 200-meter dash clocking of 23.63. The sophomore fell off of his usual pace in the long jump but still nabbed third place with a leap of 18-feet, 7.5-inches in addition to a second-place finish in the high jump (6? 2?).
Teammate and fellow sophomore Trey Sathoff was the only jumper to best Sines in the high jump clearing the bar at six-feet, four-inches.
Zach Mosbey also kept with the tradition he has set so far in the early season winning both the discus (129? 10.75?) and shot put (50? 9?). Derek Morales ended up second in the shot put with a heave of 40-feet, seven-inches.
Including Sines? 100-meter dash victory, Pekin won the first six events on the track beginning with a 4x800 win from the team of Phillip Laux, Graham Wittrock, Eli Harper and Brady Lamb (8:56). After anchoring that relay, Lamb finished his night three-for-three by winning the 400-meter dash (53.34) as well as anchoring the winning 4x400-relay (3:42) preceded Hunter Maeder, Wittrock and Sathoff.
In the hurdle events, the shuttle-hurdle relay team of Maeder, Josh Sterling, Tyler Sylvester and Trevor Davis won with a clocking of 1:06.34 while Maeder added a win in the 400-meter hurdles (59.86).
Colton Dunning was victorious in the 3200-meter run (11:41) followed by Jacob Cooley?s runner-up finishes in both the 3200 (11:54) and 1600 (5:20).
The Panthers scored 208 points and finished ahead of second-place Wayne County in the final team standings by a whopping 125 points.
?Besides improving on our times and marks, we are beginning to bond as a team, which is a very important part of being a well-rounded track team,? said Pekin head coach Davis Eidahl. ?The upperclassmen are really showing good leadership.?
The Panthers will host their second meet of the early season Thursday with the Pekin Invitational slated for Thursday.
Cardinal finishes third of nine teams
BLOOMFIELD ? The Cardinal boys? track and field team finally got its 2010 season underway Monday night at the Dennis Anderson Relays.
The Comets put together a solid effort their first time on the track to come away with a third-place finish scoring 73 points. Wayne County was second with 83, while Pekin ran away with the team title scoring 208.
?With only 15 kids on the team, they?re all running at least three events, but I was happy with the efforts of these young men,? said first-year head coach Darren Hill. ?We got a taste of what it?s going to take to compete, and we will continue to improve to also compete with ourselves.?
Marcus Giltner and AJ Rachford each posted individual wins for Cardinal with Rachford taking the 110-meter hurdle title with a time of 15.92. Giltner posted a best leap of 18-feet, 10-inches to win the long jump and was also a part of three Comet relays that placed.
The 1600-medley relay team of Giltner, Jake Scherer, Rachford and Raymond Booth placed second (4:08), the 4x200-relay team of Joe Olson, Brandon Warren, Scherer and Giltner took third (1:41.90) and Tanner Chance, Olson, Scherer and Giltner teamed up to take fourth-place in the 4x100 (48.09).
