WACO and Pekin were tied with six minutes remaining in Thursday?s Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division girls? basketball game in Wayland, but the visiting Panthers pulled away down the stretch for a 42-36 victory.
Freshman Gwynne Wright scored a game-high 19 points to lead Pekin (6-7, 6-6 SEISC North), which snapped a four-game losing streak. Freshman Beth Atwood added seven points, six rebounds and four steals, and junior Samantha Wright had seven points, five rebounds and three thefts.
Sophomores Jalyssa Jepson and Erika Leichty scored 10 points apiece to lead the Warriors (5-9, 4-8 SEISC North), and sophomore Aaliyah Brown chipped in seven points.
