MADRID — It just wasn’t Pekin’s night on Friday in Madrid.
The Panthers’ season came to a crushing end with a 33-0 loss to the Tigers
Pekin had some great opportunities to score early, but could never find momentum offensively.
After the Tigers struck at the 11:11 mark in the first with a 52 yard touchdown run that was all they would need.
Pekin followed with a stellar drive of their own, but was halted after a failed 4th and goal at the Tiger’s three yard line.
That narrative continued for the Panthers in the early stages of the game.
The first quarter ended with Madrid on top 7-0.
Pekin got another solid opportunity to put points on the board after getting inside the Madrid 30, but once again the drive ended on a failed 4th down conversion.
A Madrid turnover at its own 32 gave Pekin yet another great shot to turn the momentum, but a third straight 4th down turnover on downs was the result.
From then on out it was all Tigers.
Madrid extended the lead to 14-0 with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Preston Wicker to Max Fowler with just 1:08 to go in the first half.
Pekin got the ball out of the break, but didn’t have an answer. The Tigers tacked on six more with a Wicker two-yard touchdown run to make it 20-0 with 4:52 remaining in the third.
On the first play in the fourth quarter, Wicker connected with Emerson Bridgewater from 29 yards out to make it 27-0.
Madrid finished it out with a one-yard touchdown run as Pekin’s postseason run came to an end.
Pekin ends a stellar run with a 8-2 overall record. It’s the most wins the Panthers have put up since the 2017-18 season.
