Pekin girls, Columbus boys SEISC champions

WAYLAND — Friday was one of the busiest days of the year for the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.
It marked the SEISC boys and girls track and field conference meet.
Teams and individuals from around the SEISC gathered at WACO High School for an opportunity at being named conference champions.
Conference teams were split up into two separate groups on both the girls and boys’ side based on the North and South Divisions.
For the boys, Columbus, Winfield-Mt. Union, WACO, Louisa-Muscatine, Pekin, Lone Tree, Wapello, Hillcrest Academy and Highland represented the North.
Mediapolis, Van Buren County, Central Lee, West Burlington, Danville and New London were the South representatives.
On the girls’ side, it was the same.
Leading the Union area squads were the Columbus boys and the Pekin girls.
The Wildcats finished with 183 total points to lead the North Division.
WMU finished second with 112 points, WACO took third with 109, Pekin finished fifth with 96, Hillcrest Academy ended with 11 and Highland four.
In the South, Van Buren County finished second with 97 points. New London finished sixth with 51 points. Mediapolis was the winner with 169 points.
The Pekin girls amassed 185 points to take the top spot in the girls’ North.
Highland followed in fourth with 79 points, WMU finished sixth with 54 points, Columbus had 53 for seventh, WACO eighth with 48 and Hillcrest ninth with 24.
Van Buren County led the Union area in the girls’ South with 110 points for third. New London placed sixth with 29 points.
Picking up a first-place finish for Columbus in the meet was Triston Miller in the high jump with a leap of 6’4.
Miller also won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.25. That was a meet record.
Kaden Amigon took first in the 200-meter dash and the 100-meter with times of 22.27 and 10.99.
The Wildcats 4x800 of Tim Hills-Carrier, Tyler Humiston, Cole Storm and Damian Vergara won with a time of 8:46.47.
Jeff Hoback, Riley Kaalbert, Miller and Amigon won the 4x100 with a time of 42.79, a new meet record.
Winfield-Mt. Union’s Cam Buffington won the long jump with a leap of 21-4.50 feet.
Gabriel Hemsworth picked up a win for the Wolves in a 400-meter hurdles. He ran a time of 57.09.
Kohlby Newsom picked up a win in the 800-meter with a time of 2:00.24.
The Wolves’ distance medley ran a winning time of 3:47.28. Lane Genkinger, Abram Edwards, Ty Scorpil and Newsom ran the event.
In the sprint medley of Caleb Giese, Edwards, Buffington and Hemsworth ran a winning time of 1:40.32
The 4x400 of Sheaden Adams, Scorpil, Newsom and Hemsworth ran a 3:34.51 for a win.
WACO had winners in the 4x100 meter shuttle hurdle. Isaac Oswald, Mason Miller, Louden Huisenga and Simeon Reichenbach ran a winning time of 1:02.63.
In the 4x200, Braden Spain, Oswald, Miller and Clayton Miller finished first in 1:36.02.
For Pekin, Brady McWhirter was a winner in the 3200-meter. McWhirter ran 10:23.79 for first.
McWhirter was also the victor in the 1600-meter with a time of 4:50.79.
Hillcrest and Highland had no first-place finishes on the day.
On the North Divison girls’ side, Pekin’s Lilly Reneker won the 100 and 200 with time of 13.15 and 26.94.
Chloe Glosser took the 1500-meter in 5:05.88.
In the 3000-meter run, Lauren Steigleder was a winner in 11:52.64.
The high jump champion was Abby Guise with a leap of 5’2.
Anna Hadley threw 36-06.25 in the shot for first. Hadley also won the discus with a throw of 114-04.
In the 4x400, Claire Roth, Audrey Fariss, Sabrina Reneker and Glosser were winners in 4:20.20.
Fariss, Alex Parsons, Brooke Miller and Glosser were also victorious in the 4x800 in a time of 10:18.17.
Lauren Conklin, Sabrina Reneker, Fariss and Glosser were distance medley champions in a time of 4:27.50.
For Highland, Sarah Burton won the long jump crown with a leap of 17-01.50.
Winfield-Mt. Union’s Keetyn Townsley ran a time of 17.14 in the 100-meter hurdles. That was good enough for first-place.
The Wolves’ 4x100 meter shuttle hurdle of Josie Nelson, Keyreana Sharar, Tessa Huston and Townsley won after clocking 1:12.33.
WACO had one winner on the girls’ side. Zoey Dennler posted a time of 1:13.21 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Columbus and Hillcrest had no first-place finishes in the competition.
In the South, the Van Buren County boys were led by Anthony Duncan with a win in the 400-meter hurdles. Duncan ran 54.99 for first.
For New London, Kade Benjamin cleared 6’8 in high jump for the title.
In the girls’ South side, Marlee Mertens led Van Buren with a win in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.89.
In the 4x800, the Warrior’s Callie Kracht, Marta Ardizzone, Rylee Caviness and Rylee Philips won in 11:13.21.
The 4x100 of Mertens, Keley Welch, Lexie Wiley and Libby Bainbridge ran 1:15.06 for the win.
New London had no winners on the girls’ side.
